Makeup Anti-Haul…

I’ve sat and binge watched as many anti-haul videos on YouTube as I could over the past couple of months. I can’t get enough of them so I thought I’d do my own anti-haul, in written form of course.

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of the anti-haul it’s a list of beauty products you’re not going to be purchasing. The trend was created by a YouTuber named Kimberly Clark and I’ll have her channel linked if you want to check her out.

My reasons for choosing not to purchase a product is either due to price, reviews, knowing the product will not work for me or just being generally uninterested. If you love any of the products I mentioned, that’s fine. They aren’t bad products, just products I know I’ll get no use from.

The first product I have no interest in purchasing is Tarte’s Clay Play Face Shaping Palette. I’ve seen this floating around on YouTube and Instagram and to me, it just looks like any other neutral palette. It doesn’t inspire me, there’s a million other neutral palettes on the market. This palette also contains three contour shades which look a little too warm for me, and I rarely contour as it is so I’d really only be paying for the eyeshadows which makes this a very expensive palette. I’m a little wary of Tarte as I’ve heard their eyeshadows tend to be very inconsistent in quality but I have heard good things about their Tartlette palettes so maybe one day, I’ll give those a go but for £36, I’m not willing to gamble on this particular palette so I’ll be giving this a miss. Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Palette

The next product I won’t be buying is the famous Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette. This launched on the 25th of July in the US and has already sold out! I don’t think this is available in the UK yet, but regardless I won’t be buying it when it is. This is something I would absolutely spend my money on, the shades look beautiful, unique and I could get some amazing looks out of this, but unfortunately I’m allergic to Anastasia’s Modern Renaissance palette. I have the Modern Renaissance palette and loved it when I got it, the shadows are some of the smoothest I’ve ever tried, they all have superior pigmentation, blend beautifully and look amazing on pretty much anyone. I suspect the Subculture palette is going to share the same formulation which will make me allergic, making it a huge waste of money if I did purchase it. I want it, but I know I won’t be able to wear it so I’ll save myself the £41. I’ll have the palette linked down below, it is sold out in the US but you can join a mailing list.

While we’re on the subject of palettes, another one I will not be purchasing is Too Faced’s Glitter Bomb Palette. I’ve seen this product in a few anti-hauls I can see why. In my opinion the purpose of an eyeshadow palette is to be able to create a variety of looks with just the one palette. It’s almost impossible to do that with the Glitter Bomb palette because it’s a full of glitter! It does come down to personal preference as well as I’m not too keen on glitter on the eyes. Glitter can look beautiful but on me, it looks too much, to overly done. I’m just not a fan of the glittery eye trend. This product retails for £33 which is insanely expensive considering you can buy loose glitters from cheaper brands like NYX. I think Too Faced have created some beautiful products like their Chocolate Bar Palette line which are much more versatile and wearable. To me, this just isn’t worth the money, especially for what it is. Link below.

Huda Beauty’s Summer Solstice Highlighter palette is the next product I have zero interest in. I’ve seen almost every instagram makeup artist feature this in their videos and I just don’t get this product. The shade St. Tropez looks beautiful, it looks like the perfect light gold shade that I know would work for my skin tone but I know for a fact I wouldn’t use the remaining three shades which would make this a ridiculously expensive highlighter at £40! Malibu is far too peachy, Copacabana is far too pink and the final shade Mykonos is completely unwearable as a highlighter. It’s a warm toned purple and I can’t imagine anyone being able to use this. It could work as an eyeshadow but that would make a very expensive shadow. It’s just not worth the money. I feel the same about Anastasia’s Glow Kits, the Moon Child and Aurora palettes in particular, they’re really unwearable for the everyday person. If you’re a makeup artist, a highlighter palette like these may be beneficial, for the average consumer, not so much.

Another product I will not be spending money on are any of the Farsali Oils. Another Instagram favourite and in my opinion a huge waste of money. The main ingredient in the Unicorn Essence, the most popular oil, is water. I’m not sure how much of the product is water but it’s the first ingredient on the list meaning it’s the main ingredient, and for $54, it’s not worth it. Wayne Goss recently did a review and said the Farsali Oils were amazing but I’m still not convinced, especially when I’m using an oil I got for £10 on Amazon that’s doing me absolute wonders! I believe this would retail for around £40 – £50 in the UK and I’m not prepared to spend that kind of money on a fancy bottle of water. If you want a good facial oil, try The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. It’s only £9. I’ll link Farsali and The Ordinary down below.

Another loved product on social media that I wont be re-purchasing is Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Concealer. I don’t think I’ve seen a bad review on this so I thought for only £8.99 it can’t hurt to give it a try. I purchased this and gave it away almost instantly. I applied it under my eyes and lightly dusted it with a little powder to set. Within an hour this had creased like it had been on all day with out any powder on top. It looked terrible. It had also settled into every fine line and made my under eyes look 10 years older. I was shocked at how bad this performed and couldn’t understand why so many people were raving about this. Even though its affordable, I’ll save my self the £9 and put it elsewhere. Link below.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind

The final product I won’t be spending my money on are Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kits. The reasons I’ve decided not to purchase these have nothing to do with Kylie as a person. I’ve seen too many negative reviews on these which is why I’m going to save myself the £20. These also cost a bomb to have them shipped to the UK. I was going to buy one for a friends birthday but customer service told me international shipping would cost me another £14 which would bring the total around £34 – £39. For a liquid lipstick that’s been said to be very drying and a standard lip pencil, £34 is just too much. I’ve also heard horror stories in regards to international shipping with people allegedly not receiving their products and other people being told they’re responsible for customs charges. These lip kits just don’t seem worth it. There’s a million other liquid lipsticks on the market that are easily accessible and are just as good, if not better than these.
