For those of you who don’t know, I study Creative Writing at university. I love to write, it’s all I’ve wanted to do since I was young, but before starting university, I hardly ever wrote, why? Because I could never find inspiration. Looking at a blank document was so overwhelming that it was easier for me to just walk away.
But I’ve learned a way to help combat writers block and find inspiration. It’s a technique called life writing. It’s very simple but effective, I promise this works.
All you have to do for this is take a pen to paper and just write. For about 10 minuets, just write whatever comes to mind and take no notice of grammar or spelling, it’s not important. This isn’t going to be your final piece! Do not take your pen off your paper, if you can’t think of anything to write, write it down. Your mind will begin to wander, maybe you’ll start writing about a special day, maybe you’ll just talk utter nonsense but it’s important not to think like a writer at this stage, don’t create characters, plots, settings or anything of the sort. Just write whatever you’re thinking. This tip may seem far fetched, but look over what you’ve written, really look and you’ll be able to pull a story from it, use your imagination, you’re a writer after all!
I hope you give this technique a go if you’re struggling to write and hopefully you’ll get an amazing story out of it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and I hope to see you in my next one.
